Dr. Elizabeth Orth

Dr. Elizabeth (Russell) Orth grew up on Cape Cod, Massachusetts in the small town of Sandwich. Living on the Cape taught her the joys of being a part of a close-knit community including having a strong physician-patient bond with her doctor. These early experiences began Dr. Orth’s initial inspiration to study medicine from a holistic and patient-centered lens.

While attending Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, Dr. Orth passionately pursued experiences that widened her understanding of practicing medicine and that would increase her knowledge of both the arts and sciences (leading her to Major in Classical Studies and Minor in Chemistry, while on the Pre-Medical Track). During these undergraduate years, Dr. Orth attended Summer Internships at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts as well as traveled overseas to the Gremaltes Hospital in Chennai, India to participate in a Summer Internship that explored the practice of medicine outside of the United States. Such experiences led her to become more dedicated to the need to develop the physician-patient bond and increase patient education regarding their own healthcare. However, she still felt that there was something missing.

Soon after these experiences, Dr. Orth serendipitously came to meet with a “different type of doctor” on the Cape. This doctor spent more time with her patients, helped empower her patients through educating them, worked with the patient in order to alleviate the root causes of illness instead of just addressing symptoms, and genuinely loved practicing medicine. Upon discovering that this doctor was a Naturopathic Doctor, Dr. Orth researched Naturopathic Medicine and realized that was her calling. She discovered that Bastyr University in Washington State had a strong emphasis in both the art and the science of practicing medicine and decided to pursue her Naturopathic Medical School training there.

Since graduating from Bastyr University in 2012, Dr. Orth has experience working within a variety of practices, including Bothell Natural Health in Bothell, WA, Snohomish Naturopathic Clinic in Snohomish, WA and Tree of Health Integrative Medicine in Woodinville, WA before heading back home to Massachusetts.

Dr. Orth is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. She is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and Massachusetts Society of Naturopathic Doctors.

In her free time she enjoys hiking, ice skating, visiting museums, attending plays and shows, and singing. She lives in Arlington, MA with her husband, daughter and cat.
